Hand-Building Clay Workshop with Ethel Mitrovik

Ethel has been a Potter for 16 years and has taught hand-building to children at Morrison Public School. She is a member of the London Potters’ Guild, the St. Thomas-Elgin Artists’ Guild and currently has her work is on display at the Art Emporium in Port Stanley.

The goal of this three-day workshop is to have clients successfully complete between 1 and 3 clay hand-built sculptures or table ware.

Day 1: Build a Clay Vessel using (a) Pinch construction

(b) Slab construction, and

(c) Coil construction.

Day 2: Decorate vessels from previous day using slip, underglaze, or carving.

Day 3: Glazing bisque fired pieces.

This workshop will take place Wednesdays in the Art Emporium Boathouse Gallery from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm starting April 16th and continuing the 23rd  and 30th of April. All material for this workshop will be supplied including clay, firing, glazes, and under glazes. Tools and molds will also be available to be used for the workshop.

Total cost for this workshop is $100 which includes HST.  Participants must register at the Art Emporium by Friday, April 4th during gallery hours Friday – Monday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Participants are cautioned to wear old clothing as they may get dirty and stained. Short fingernails are recommended.
