Margo Oborne

Even though I grew up in a school system that did not offer art classes, I chose careers that encompassed design. I started as a Home Economics Teacher and then changed to Interior Decorating. From there, I went on to manufacturing and retailing clothing for Senior Ladies. I had a shop called Traditions at Summerhill and Yonge Street in Toronto for ten years.

My husband and I retired up to Beaverton on Lake Simcoe in 2000 and it was there that I took my first painting class.  My husband died shortly after and painting became my refuge. It brought me such comfort.  Shortly after, a group of my friends invited me to go on Safari with them to Africa. I fell in love with the African animals and focused on painting them for a period.

We had travelled a lot and I wanted to continue travelling so, from then on, I chose destinations where I could take painting lessons.  Some of the hi-lights were Aussi, Italy and San Miguel de Allende and Bucerias, Mexico. My bucket list includes painting classes on a cruise of The Greek Islands.  It is a wonderful way to meet people with similar interests as yours quickly and in a safe location.

I moved to Port Stanley in 2008 to be closer to family. I chose Port Stanley because it was considered an artist community. It has surpassed my expectations.  I am fascinated with the beauty of watercolours but do occasionally paint with acrylics for their vivid colours.  I like my paintings to tell a story or inspire a story in the viewers mind. I paint anything that captures my interest and especially enjoy painting portraits and animals. I welcome consignments.

I am a member of the St. Thomas-Elgin Artists’ Guild, Port Stanley Artists’ Guild and the Port Stanley Art Association.
