Biography
Florina Maris is a self taught artist from Romania specializing in abstract painting using acrylics on canvas. Florina's educational background is in textile engineering - researching and studying textile materials, including fibers, yarn and fabrics, to design quality products and determine new production techniques.

After many years living in Canada and pursuing a career in bookkeeping while raising her only child, she was left longing for more.
Her love of design led her to a new career path, starting a home renovation business designing interior spaces, using color and physical form to create beautiful environments.
In 2016, Florina began to explore new creative activities with her teenage daughter while struggling with a new challenge that had presented itself - anxiety. This led to the beginning of a new passion in abstract painting, producing pieces ever since she came upon this art form and has branched out using different mediums such as clay and cement. For many years, Florina was enamored with Lake Erie and its surrounding communities. Being in her mid fifties, when the opportunity arose to come to Elgin county and leave the busy city behind she knew it was the right thing to do. The tranquility, calming and serene effects of water and nature found in this area prompted her to make the move and dedicate herself entirely to her art.

Artist Statement

"Life is a strange adventure and I have found that our greatest struggles and our greatest pain can also be a time of great learning, evolution and reinvention. For me, painting has been a reflective exercise, carrying me through life's ups and downs - acting as an outlet for expressing my emotions hence the variations of color and texture in what I have produced over the years.
Now, I am ready to share my work with world".
